Fleeing Hitler's Germany, Léo Löwe finds himself aboard the liner Goðafoss, on his way to Iceland. In the hatbox he treasures, sleeps a little clay boy he hopes to awaken to life. In order to achieve this, Leo has to face a whole series of ordeals: learning Icelandic, milking a goat every day to bathe the child in its milk, applying for Icelandic nationality from an official who questions him about the diet of werewolves, enlisting the services of a Russian cook-spy and a black American theologian who is also a wrestling champion, before pitting himself against a stamp dealer in single combat. An unclassifiable fable that will seduce readers experienced in forms of writing with an overflowing imagination, chimerical poems, exquisite cadavers and other surrealisms…
